I love taking assessments. Beyond the pure entertainment factor of trying to see if a few dynamic questions can figure me out, assessments are great tools to help with self-awareness, personal / professional benchmarking and learning.
A few days ago a client sent me an assessment that I hadn’t taken before. It’s called UCipher.
From the UCipher website:
UCipher is a unique assessment that helps you to deepen your understanding of yourself-– your motivations, abilities, and personality. It also provides insight into desirable roles and preferred organizational environments where you will thrive as a leader.
The final report was very interesting. Not only did it provide me with some great reflection material and wording to rework my bio, it also helped remind me to bring clarity to what I do with a simple purpose statement. That may not have been the primary intent of UCipher but for me, it was a welcomed side effect.
A lot of what I do professionally revolves around marketing products and ideas. It involves communications and helping clients be strategic and effective. It also involves creating opportunities and capitalizing on them in a variety of ways that derive the most benefit based on the objective or goal.
Yeah, I help authors launch books, expand their platforms and develop products & ideas. Yeah, I work with professional speakers to help them attract more business. Yeah, I help clients communicate better and build interactive, engaged communities. And… yeah, I work with churches on communicating more effectively both internally and externally.
But what do I really do? All those things above are somewhat like the tools or a means to an end.
What I REALLY do is this…
I help clients expand their influence.
There it is. One little 5 word sentence.
Ultimately that is what drives me in my work. To align with people and organizations that are making a positive difference in the world and who we can utilize these tools for the greater benefit of others. It’s expanding positive influence.
Gaining more followers for the sake of selling something is really not the primary objective (although it’s a part of the equation). However, equipping people with resources that will change their lives… is. By expanding the following, we expand the ability to influence and the ability to make an impact… and that my friends is what it’s all about.
So what about you?
What do you do? I mean, what do you REALLY do?
